Design Story
Colette wears her oval sideways. The centre stone is set east–west across the finger rather than along it, with pavé wings sweeping up from either shoulder and a softly pointed gold frame drawn around the whole head. Setting an oval crosswise is an old jeweller's trick for making a stone read wider than it is, and it gives the ring an ease that a north–south setting never quite has.

Warm water, a little mild soap and a soft brush every couple of weeks will keep the stone bright. Put the ring on after moisturiser and perfume, not before, and take it off for cleaning, swimming and the gym.

Pick a ring that fits the intended finger well. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres, or place it over a printed ring sizer to find the closest match.
Use a string or paper strip
Wrap a strip of paper or string snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, then measure that length against a ring size chart.
Get sized by a jeweller
